Is that your Dorian Gray painting?

I once thought it was a good idea to buy a gigantic case of toilet paper from Costco, figuring i’d always need toilet paper and why not get it at a discount. I moved twice before i finished it all; had moving boxes filled with toilet paper.

Yeah, I have lots of shelves in any upper space. Nobody can buy a house in SF or nearby anymore. Houses that a plumbers family could have in the 70's are now 800k to over million.

That is a print of Ginevra de Benci, the only da Vinci painting in the U.S. She lives at the National Gallery in DC, and you should pay her a visit. Don’t forget to walk around to the back - she’s painted on panel, and the reverse show, if I recall correctly, a coat of arms.

The owner of this apartment laid it out perfectly, with lots of overhead storage. I want to buy it (they’d sell it) but SigOther says it’s too small. So we continue our search.

I amazingly still have empty cabinets in my nyc apt, but slowly filling them up. Cabinets become closets once all the kitchenware has been stowed...

SigOther is in Japan for a week - my assignment is to get rid of books and clothes that we will not read again or wear again. No pressure.

Can I just come look at it in your bathroom?

Sure - just let me know the date and time so I can scoop the litterbox ...

In Japan they have magazines with clever tricks, if I built a place I would use them, I kept clippings from over the years with some cool stuff. One had drawers under the lip of every step in the staircase for shoes.

Hell, we have 2600sf, but our linen closets still look like that on a good day. For some reason, the wife frowns on stacking boxes of toilet paper in places like our “Dining Room” (which has been dined in exactly 3 times in 5 years). As a general rule, your crap will always expand to fill the space allowed — cars, software, houses, anything.

Her shoes are in Container Store bins under the bed. Does she wear them? ... do I look suicidal?

There are cold Newcastles in the fridge ... I’ll wait here.

We’ve been looking for an apartment to buy - the worst wastes of space are dining rooms and foyers. We sit on the couch and watch TV and eat. A dining room will not be of any use.

All the more reason we should use it for warehousing when it’s not needed for dining. The day before Thanksgiving, I can just move all the toilet paper out to the garage and park my car in the driveway for a couple days. Best of both worlds. In theory. Sometimes I look at our unused heated/cooled space and think “People right here in my town are paying MORE than my mortgage to have climate-controlled storage of this size.” Suburban First World Problems. I need to do like an AirBNB for storage space.

Hell 650sq ft is a mansion. My wife and I lived in 267 sq ft in Hong Kong but we were never so foolish as to buy in bulk!

Oh my wife and her sister in Japan have a serious number of shoes.

That might work ... and we can’t have turkey. A Manhattan-sized refrigerator won’t hold all the leftovers from even a 10 pound bird. If anyone breeds a small turkey that feeds 2 or 3, they’ll make millions.

Shit - from what I understand, HK is crazy expensive. My world-traveling SigOther has her own nomination - after staying in Seoul in 2007, she said it was the most expensive city she’s ever seen - and she lived in Tokyo for years.

I draw the line at bags that cost as much as used JDM engines on Ebay.

She has a $600 wallet (Chanel). I said, wouldn’t you rather have a $100 wallet with $500 in it? She said - you’d just take the $600 and shove it into your pocket!
She’s right - although she did get me a slender wallet from a London shoemaker. And I use it.

She didn’t like my velcro wallet when we lived in Japan so she got a Diesel one that zips up, I still use it. I know she has an $800 bag, don’t know the brand, I always say, “hey there’s that $800 bag” when she uses it. She has never said, “hey how much have you spent on the Z....”

There are rings that are worth a few grand apiece (am I setting myself up here?) that I need to add to the contents policy. She has stuff that is from designers I might not even know their names. ...

Housing is for sure. That 267 sq ft apt cost us about $2200/mo US.

This is why I got my mustang in convertible form. I didn't really want a convertible, but if I have gf buy in, then it's not "that stupid car I waste all the money on" it our car we waste all the money on.
